Empirical Research on Communication and Media


Our division contributes to the institute’s Bachelor (B.A. KMW) as well as the Master’s programmes (M.A. KMW/Communication Management).


On Bachelor level, we teach introductory courses on theories of media reception, effects and use as well as on social research methodology.


The Master program, where empirical communication and media research is one of five majors offered, is strongly research-oriented. Thus, our courses cover both research methods (data collection, data analysis, experimental research, philosophy of science) and theories on media reception and effects at an advanced level. A considerable part of our Master’s courses consists of research projects, where students broaden their theoretical and methodical skills working on actual research problems.
