Profile
The Department of Journalism is part of the Institute of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Leipzig. It consists of two chairs.
The first chair focuses on journalistic and economic aspects of the press. Its curriculum includes introductory courses such as different types of language and investigation, speaking exercises and exercises in forms of representation, style and in newspaper layout. Furthermore it includes courses on media law and on research projects about current issues of journalism.
The Chair of Journalism II puts particular emphasis on Media Policy, Internet Governance, International Media Systems as well as on visual and auditory media. The key aspects of the education and research are radio, television, and online journalism. The curriculum contains both research and methodology seminars as well as practical courses. Students have the opportunity to gain experiences in different training editorial offices: radio ("Mephisto 97.6"), online ("Uncover") or television broadcasting (“Akademisches Viertel”).
