Projects of Historic & Systematic Communication Research

Current research projects
Press Correspondences in the German Empire and the Weimar Republic
The study deals with secondary statistical analyses in order to describe the economic and professional structures and conditions of press correspondences between 1890 and 1933, to identify major actors and their relationships and activities.
Indexing & Digitalizing Karl Bücher’s Inheritance (cooperation with the University Library)
Karl Bücher (1847-1930), economist, journalist and historian was the founder of the first German institute of press research in 1916 at the University of Leipzig. The material of his inheritance illustrates his manifold scientific and political activities and reflects his wide international relations within the academic community. The documents are digitalized and published via the indexing software “Kalliope”.
The project is funded by the German Research Foundation.
Journalism as a Profession and the History of Professionalization in Journalism
The project encompasses several historic analyses of the professionalization in journalism between 1880 and 1933, specifically focusing on the role and function of different social-professional organizations.
